Entertainment Mondays: Taylor Swift Style Mash Ups ( 25 May 2015)

A mash up is when two songs are fused together to make one song. I love going on YouTube and looking for covers and mash ups of my favourite songs.  One of my favourite songs off Taylor Swift’s 1989 album is Style. Style is about timeless love and remembering the good times and the bad times. The relationship may not be the healthiest but they still love each other. There are rumors that the song was inspired by Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend Harry Styles.

The first mash up that I discovered was Louisa Wendorff and Devin Dawson. They combined Style with another Taylor Swift song called Blank Space. Louisa and Devin’s mash up is an acoustic version of the two songs.

The second mash up I found was Love Me Like your Style which is an mix of Style and Ellie Goulding’s song Love Me Like You Do.

Here is the Ellie Goulding's Love Me Like you Do

  2. After taking to some people about them, I've found a few people who love mashups and a few who hate them. I suppose if they're done well then they are fun to listen to. I'm not sure I'll ever like them as much as I like original tunes but there is something interesting when people put two tunes together and somehow they work. I had actually NEVER even heard of them until recently when a local radio personality played a mash up of Carly Rae Jepsen and Nine Inch Nails. here's the link to that.

    1. I agree that mash ups are never as good as the originals. I like mash ups because they bring a new angle to the music and it's admirable to be able to fuse two songs together perfectly. I think the feat is greater when it's two very different songs. I also think it's an introduction to music that is outside of what you normally listen to. I wouldn't have heard Ellie Goulding's song if it wasn't mashed up with Taylor Swift's song.

I went to listen to Carly Rae Jepsen's song like you suggested. I think it kinda goes together except for the part where he sings, "You'll get what you deserve". That sounds foreboding.
