With Summer on the way here in the Northern Hemisphere (sorry Carlyn and you Southern Hempisherers) I wanted to share a few tunes that have come out recently that I have really taken to. Hopefully they will put you in the mood for sunshine, cool drinks and dancing.
Vulfpeck is a band that is starting to really come on to the music scene because of a super funky vibe and a unique sound. I love their hit tune Back Pocket. I don't know why, but for some reason I really love the point in the song where they sing, "Oh gee, Oh gosh" and the fun, bouncy chorus too.
Typically I would link the video inside our thread but blogger is having a bad case of the Monday's apparently today, so unfortunately I will have to settle for simply entering the links to youtube for your viewing and listening pleasure. We will forgive blogger because ... well... everyone has a bad day now and then. And who knows maybe some of these tunes will cheer blogger up and I will be able to link pictures (if you hadn't noticed that our fancy little dancing Entertainment Monday Header was missing as well) and videos again.
Vulfpeck: Back Pocket
My next song is an awesome (and if you thought Back Pocket was funky this really brings the whole Bad Ass 1970s Funk feel) tune and interesting video from White Denim. The song is entitled Haha Haha Yeah. Which apparently is a common saying in some places. I am not sure if White Denim's origins are from Austin, Texas, but they have made a big name for themselves there and Austen is simply one of the hottest spots in the States (not literally, although the weather is probably rather warmer then it is here) for burgeoning musicians and established bands. It's a little musical menagerie with all sorts of eclectic sounds down there in the Lone Star State.
The best thing about Haha Haha Yeah's message is that it promotes being you and having fun! Who doesn't love that? Oh... and can you Honky Tonk? You can also view, should you choose to, the live performance by White Denim which extends the tune with an impressive musical riff at the end.
White Denim: Haha Haha (Yeah)!
My big sis and brother in law are fairly big Silver Sun Pick-Up fans and they have a tune off their most recent album that I love called Circadian Rhythm (Last Dance)
Silver Sun Pick-Ups: Circadian Rhythm (Last Dance)
One song that I've enjoyed listening to the last few weeks is Gone by the band JR JR
The video is a little freaky if you have fears of bodily dismemberment, but aside from that it shouldn't contain anything too frightening for our readers/viewers. Perhaps their is a good reason blogger wasn't letting me post these videos today.
JR JR: Gone
One of my favorite songs this late Spring season heading into the Summer is a song called Spirits by the Strumbellas. I've actually woke up the last 3 morning with this song going through my head. So I literally have Spirits in my head and it won't go, as the song so appropriately opines.
The Strumbellas: Spirits
So I apologize for the technical glitches that may make this Entertainment Monday a bit less aesthetic then some past posts, but hopefully a few of the songs I shared will bring some of our readers to new bands and new music.
I enjoyed all the songs Jon Bear. I really liked the Vulfpeck song the most as I currently teach year five. There's a boy who has declared his love for one of the other students. Unfornately, he's just moved to another school so he won't see her again.
ReplyDeleteWow it's interesting how closely that young man's situation parallels the song. :O
ReplyDeleteShe never returned his affections but was flattered and embarrassed by his attention. The whole class loved teasing them about it. It was funny when the children had to write a paragraph about someone they love and share it with the class. He wrote about her!
