It's a wonderful life! Film review

I have a lot of free time on my hands because I am on school vacation. So I decided to rent some dvds down at Blockbuster and one of them is 'It's a wonderful life!' which is on my list of films to watch.

The movie is about a man named George Bailey who makes a lot of sacrifices for his community and is played by James Stewart. I like the character because he was often the voice of reason when everyone wanted to give up and he stood up for everyone when the evil business man Henry Potter wanted to buy out the whole town.
One day, George who owns the Building and Loan company (kinda like a bank or like how it sounds a place to get loans lol) is missing $8000 and he needs to get it back before he's arrested for bank fraud. George becomes very stressed and his guardian angel appears. George wishes he was never born and the angel shows him what life would be like if he were never born.

As I watched this movie, I couldln't help thinking of other movies and shows that may have been inspired by this movie. Back to the Future 2 reminds me of this movie. In Back to the Future 2, Biff the school bully takes a sports almanac from the future and gives it to his younger self in the past. The event alters time and creates this seedy world of gambling, crime and violence.
The world without George Bailey is like that as well.

I also thought about The Simpsons and how there are few episodes that may have some references to It's a wonderful life! too but I don't want to spoil it for the minority of people who have not watched the film.

I like the film. I felt bad for George during the movie because he kept having to make so many sacrifices during his life but it got better at the end of the movie.

  1. YAY! I'm glad you watched the whole film Carlyn. Watching It's a Wonderful Life is a holiday tradition in my family and for lots of American families for that matter. The "Potter's Field" is actually a biblical reference, and there are a few other biblical references in the movie I am aware of ... maybe MANY others, but I don't know my bible extremely well. >.< I love the postive message the film sends about family, friends and being a good person, like my friend Carlyn is. =D

  2. My family's Christmas tradition is to watch Groundhog day, any of the Home Alone movies and any made for tv Christmas movies.
