MS Novel Challenge

Next month I will be participating in a new charity event which is the MS Novel Challenge http://thenovelchallenge.org.au. When I was little, I always wanted to enter the MS Readathon but my parents would not allow it because they aren’t that charitable and thought it was too much work.

The Novel challenge is the adult version of the MS Readathon  . A readathon is a like a marathon for books. You read a lot of books for a certain period of time and people sponsor you to read the books. Sponsors can choose to donate amounts  by  how many pages you read, or how many books you read, or how much time you took to read books. Participants can read for thirty days as many books as they can or read as many books as they can for three months. I am going to be taking the three month option as I am a slow reader. I will push myself to read as many books as I can so expect to find more reviews from me.

I will be reading from the book list that Jon and I created from the start of the year as well any other books that interest me, you can find the list here .

The good thing about the readathon is that you don’t have to read just books; you can count magazines, web pages, homework as part of your reading. As for me, I have decided that for every book I read, I will donate 5 dollars and 10cents per blog page. I read blogs every day and I follow a lot of blogs. When I find a good one that I like, I even read most of the older posts so I am sure I will end up raising a good amount of money just by reading blogs alone.

So if you like reading, perhaps you should consider taking up the Novel Challenge or the Readathon for children. The event is open to everyone not just Australians.  There are recommended book lists if you don’t know what to read and I think Australian children can win prizes if you raise a lot of money.

  1. Good Luck with the read-a-thon Carlyn! =) Might I be able to select one book for you to read during your read-a-thon? If so I will give my choice some good thought, but if you wish to work off of our current list of "to reads", along with your blog surfing and homework assignments I fully understand that as well. =)
